MEET MIKE

MVG - Website - 03.jpg

Hi there, I’m Mike. (Although I will also answer to "Sydney and Birdie's Dad.") I’m a father, husband, union member, state housing policy expert,  tenants’ rights activist, cyclist, boxer, community organizer, punk rocker, and Andor fan. And I’m running for City Council to fight for an affordable, safe Burbank for all.

I’m the best person for the job of Councilmember because I am a working parent that is experiencing, alongside you, the daily stress of being cost-burdened; housing, childcare, groceries, gas and the thousand other things that have exploded in price this past decade. And I have the specific expertise Burbank needs to tackle our problems.

We are in a housing crisis, and I’m a housing policy expert; we are in a democratic crisis, and I launched the protest series that put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air (and in so doing, defeated the President); we are facing a federal terror campaign against both citizens and noncitizens, and I am one of the principal anti-ICE organizers in Burbank, having built an audience of nearly ten thousand people through direct intervention and community defense; the LGBTQIA community is under attack as a proxy to undermine public education, and I am a proud public school father and fierce ally to the queer community that will call out the culture war as the hateful, counterproductive theater that it is.

I got my master’s degree to become a professional housing policy analyst because my girls deserve real opportunities for independent living in twenty years, and I’m now senior housing policy specialist for the State of California. I also currently serve on Burbank’s Planning Commission, I’m the founder of the Glendale Tenants Union, and I have served three terms as an elected delegate to the State Democratic Party.

I’m an experienced community organizer, a fierce fighter against bullies at every level, and, above all, a dedicated dad. I can do this job, and do it right.

My platform is laser-focused on improving Burbank residents’ everyday lives: Combatting the housing crisis, boosting worker power, protecting public education, and standing up for ALL Burbankers.
